Negative aggression:

Loud, threatening, loss of control, biting, profane or abusive language, assault, etc. We would like to eliminate negative aggression as soon as possible. Use containment skills or consequences skills (see below). As we are working at eliminating this negative behavior let us not forget - don't get drawn into the process personally. For example your child has a temper tantrum, but you need to act loving and kind, do not get to their level. Remain emotionally at a distance. This is very hard I know. If we are aware of our emotions we will get good at showing kindness when our child is throwing out ugliness.

Positive aggression:

competitive, hard working, leadership skills, not being lazy, etc. This aggression is what we want to turn the negative aggression into. If you child is already in this category then direct that energy into a positive activity (see below).
