The same kind of oil that accumulates on your skin is also secreted from the pores on your scalp. In the right amount, this oil helps keep your hair shiny and healthy-looking. Too much oil though can make your hair look greasy.

If your hair is oily, wash it every day. You may also find that shampoos made for oily hair help keep your mane more manageable. Also, read the labels on the styling products you use. Some of their ingredients might contribute to excess oil in your hair.

If your hair is dry and fragile, you may want to shampoo only once a week with a moisturizing shampoo. This will help preserve the natural oil and protect against breakage. There are many types of shampoos on the market, look for one that addresses your hair type.

If you notice white flakes in your hair or on your shoulders, you probably have dandruff. Dandruff can be treated with a special medicated shampoo that is available anywhere other hair products can be purchased. Read the instructions on the label for the best results.
