Crib Safety
Hand-me-downs are great, but make sure they're safe. Crib slats should be no wider than 2-3/8" apart, otherwise your baby's body could squeeze between them. Also, the mattress should be the same size as the crib, with no gaps. All screws, bolts, and other hardware must be in place and tightened to insure the crib is structurally sound. In addition, mattress support hangers should be securely attached to the end panels and mattress support of the crib. Always keep the rails up when your baby Is in the crib.

Car Safety
Start off right - use the correct car seat for your Baby's trip home from the hospital. Babies need rear-facing car seats until they weigh at least 20 pounds and are at least one year of age. Test the seat for a snug fit by grasping at the base and trying to move it side to side and towards the front of the car. It shouldn't move easily. It is never safe to travel with your baby in your lap in the car.
**For cars equipped with airbags, the car seat must be in the back seat and remain rear-facing. All children under the age of 12 are safer in the back seat.**
When your baby weighs at least 20 pounds and is over one year of age, use a forward-facing car seat; move the harness straps to the top slot. The back seat is the safest place in your car. An Auto mirror clipped to your visor will help you keep an eye on your little one's activities. A Glare Shield will help keep your baby comfortable in the car on sunny days.
A child over 40 pounds can be moved to a belt-positioning or shield booster seat. Booster seats must be used until the car shoulder/lap belts fit correctly when used alone. Never place the shoulder harness under a child's arm or behind their back because it is unsafe and reduces the effectiveness of the seat belt.
