The Child Welfare Information Gateway (CWIG) provides professionals and the general public with easily accessible information on all aspects of adoption, including infant and intercountry adoption and the adoption of children with special needs. CWIG maintains:

An adoption literature database
A database of adoption experts
Listings of adoption agencies, crisis pregnancy centers, and other adoption-related services
Excerpts of state and federal laws on adoption
Information on ongoing research projects concerning adoption

CWIG provides access to print and electronic publications, websites, databases, and online learning tools for improving child welfare practice, including resources that can be shared with families. CWIG does not place children for adoption, maintain a registry, or provide counseling. It does however, make referrals for such services. CWIG is a service of the Children's Bureau, Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,

CWIG also publishes a variety of fact sheets on adoption issues, directories of adoption-related services, and a catalog of audiovisual materials on adoption. While CWIG does not place children for adoption or provide counseling, it does make referrals for such services. CWIG is funded by the Children s Bureau, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and is operated under contract by Cygnus Corporation in Rockville, Maryland.

Child Welfare Information Gateway consolidates and builds upon the services formerly provided by the National Clearinghouse on Child Abuse and Neglect Information (NCCANCH) and the National Adoption Information Clearinghouse (NAIC). For information, contact:
