David was just a young boy, but he had a very important job to do. He took care of his family's sheep. He made sure they had enough to eat and drink and made sure they were safe. Through his faith he was brave and strong. He trusted God to help him protect the sheep. David also knew that God loved him and would protect him from harm.

We can have faith that God will protect us and help us do our very best, too.

--Memory Verse:
Trust in the Lord and do good.
~ Psalm 37:3

Make your own sheep or other animals!
Here's how-

Materials:

bowls
raw vegetables
toothpicks

Directions:

Place different kinds of vegetables into their own bowls. You can use cauliflower, carrot slices, broccoli, mushrooms, and celery. Put the vegetable pieces together to look like different animals, using toothpicks to hold them in place. To make a sheep, use a piece of cauliflower for the body and a mushroom for the head and celery sticks for the legs.

God cares for us just as the shepherd boy, David, cared for his sheep. We are like God's sheep. He watches over us and protects us, just as David did with his family's sheep, making sure they were safe and taken care of. Having faith in God as our shepherd, we can also be brave and strong in any circumstance.

--Memory Verse:
Watch, stand fast in faith, be brave, be strong.
~ 1 Corinthians 16:13

Remember Samuel? God had told Samuel that one of Jesse's sons would be the next king of Israel. One after the other, seven of Jesse's sons came to Samuel. God told Samuel that none of them were the one that He had chosen. There was one other son, the youngest one, David. David was a shepherd. Jesse sent for David. David came before Samuel. God said to Samuel, "He's the one I have chosen." Samuel poured oil onto David's head to
show that he was the one that God had chosen to be the next king of Israel.

--Memory Verse:
The Lord looks at the heart.
~ 1 Samuel 16:7

Questions:

What kinds of things do you think David had to do to take care of his family's sheep?

Does God take care of us?

What kinds of things can God protect us from?
