Since the launch of Girl Power! in 1996, communities across the country have started new Girl Power! programs or incorporated Girl Power! messages and materials into existing prevention efforts. Some have organized large 1-day events with celebrity speakers and multiple workshops; others have designed small afterschool clubs for girls.

This anthology of Girl Power! programs and activities, collected from organizations around the country, is designed to help you generate ideas to get Girl Power! going and growing in your community. The programs selected for inclusion in the anthology were chosen because they represent a variety of program models, as well as geographic, ethnic, and demographic diversity. Although not all of the models will work in every community, elements of one program can be borrowed for another. Creative cross-pollination of these programs is encouraged!

The program descriptions are brief but include enough detail for replication and adaptation. Names of program coordinators have intentionally been excluded because people may move on to new positions, but each organization has agreed to serve as a resource to others interested in starting a Girl Power! program.

For additional ideas and information, visit the Girl Power! Web site (www.health.org/gpower), which has a section dedicated to showcasing local Girl Power! programs in the 4 Grownups area.
