She was but a young girl when she placed her son in the arms of another. The tears flowed down her face and her heart felt as though it were breaking, as she stood at the window of the hospital and watched the woman place her son in the car seat and then drive away. Many years went by and there was not one day that the woman did not think of her son. She wondered if he was being cared for, the way that she would have cared for him. She would call the social worker that handled his adoption and ask her, "is he o.k.?" At one point the social worker boldly told her, "out of all the adoptions that I have handled over the years, you are one mother that should have never given her child up, your love for your child has not faded in time, but has grown, as any normal mother's would." Eventually the woman stopped calling and went on with her life. But she never forgot her son and prayed daily that God would protect hi! m and that one day, she would see him again, and at that time she would tell him, "I did not give you up because I didn't love you, but because I did love you, and I wanted only the very best for you."

Twenty six years had went by when she received the letter from the adoption agency, and her hands trembled as she opened it. She knew it was about her son and her heart beat fast as she felt excitement and fear. The agency wanted her to call them! It seemed as though her legs could not carry her fast enough as she went to the phone, and when she finally spoke to the caseworker she knew her prayers had been answered, her son was searching for her, he wanted to meet her.

As she walked down the sidewalk and saw the young man standing outside the entrance to the restaurant, she knew it was him. He was no longer the baby that she remembered, but it was her face that she saw in his, and the moment that he put his arms around her, the void that she had felt for so long in her heart, was finally filled. The first words that he spoke to her was "you did the right thing." Such simple words, but words that to her meant, "I forgive you."


Matthew 6:14 "For if ye forgive men their trespasses. your heavenly Father will also forgive you."

1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Ephesians 4:32 "And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you."

Ephesians 1:7 "In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace."


We all have a past, mistakes that we have made, regrets of yesterday, a time in our life that we can never change. This Mother's Day, be sure and tell your mother how much you love her. It doesn't matter if she was never the perfect mother, the fact is, she gave you life, if nothing else, remember this. How many times do we disappoint our heavenly Father, how many times do we ask for forgiveness? It took twenty six years for the young man in the story to be reunited with his mother. Maybe your wondering what happened between this mother and son, well I can tell you. It has been five years since my son found me and I thank God everyday for the second chance that I have received. To be able to just pick up the phone and to call him to simply say, "I was thinking of you," or to receive a Mother's Day Card, as I did yesterday, with the words I always wanted to hear him say, "I love you Mom," yes, I am blessed! But more importantly, I am forgiven!
