Successful Adoption

To Whom it May Concern:

Somehow we always knew we would adopt in order to create a family. We never doubted that it would happen for us, the questions were just "WHEN" and "HOW MANY CHILDREN WE WOULD HAVE."

After completing an enormous amount of research, we decided to go with a relatively small agency that only worked with a small number of couples at one time. The main reason that we chose this agency was that we wanted the personal attention that this provided for us. One big difference we have seen in how this agency does business is that they require their adoptive couples to be very "HANDS ON," and to get deeply involved in networking and in take a lot of the responsibility for finding the right adoption opportunity for them.

As part of this self-help system, our agency recommended that we use the Adoption.com Parent Profiles registry of prospective adoptive parents as one of the resources for us to use in our search. This was definitely one of the best pieces of advice we got from anyone, and was by far the thing that worked the best. In fact, we have used this service to adopt two children (a son and a daughter) within 16 months.

The first time around, we enrolled with the Adoption.com profile service in late October, and within the first month, we received solid contacts from 4 different sets of birthparents! We couldn't believe it! One of these contacts was a birthmother who became disgusted with the way she was being treated by her agency, because they weren't letting her get involved in selecting the adoptive parents for her child. For her, this was a MUST, and her agency was not supportive of this. She felt she knew more on this topic than her agency did. So she started searching on the Internet for an adoptive couple, and came across the Adoption.com Parent Profile registry. This led her to us.

She delivered our son on December 26th, and we took legal custody of him on New Years Eve. (How's that for great tax planning?) We were there to cut the umbilical cord and to feed our son his first bottle. WHAT A MIRACLE of MIRACLES!

We are firmly convinced that we would never have found our son if it hadn't been for the help we received from Adoption.com. "Miracle" is the only word that describes it.

When we decided to become listed again with Adoption.com, we located our daughter within four months. By then we were more experienced and a whole lot mellower and easy going. The second adoption was a breeze and was also thoroughly enjoyable and just as much of a miracle. Someone at Adoption.com told us that often the second adoption experience is easier than the first. At least for us, they were both a great experience, although we really were a lot less anxious with our daughter.

Every time we talk to the caseworker at our agency, we remind her to tell all of her clients about the Adoption.com Parent Profiles listings. She just laughs and says that we don't have to keep reminding her, because after our wonderful experiences, this is the first piece of advice she now gives out to all her couples.
