"Jiangxi Gloria"

Our of a shadowy past
they come
bundled in layer
upon
layer of unfamiliarity
ready to be documented
notarized
embossed and stamped
in rooms of uncertain color.

Ending a journey
across a thousand desks
trembling hands reach out to
reluctant children
tears testifying
to destinies forever altered.

The blue carpeted hallway of introduction
is the Holiest of Holies
whose walls bear witness
not to the birth of a child
but the birth of parenthood
in a miracle of love.
