Life On The Small Side
Talking to one of the very special people in my life, I found myself having this brief dialogue:
"Are you a monster?" :)
"Yeah."
"I know why we have you little creatures when we are young: 'cause we couldn't take it when we are 56. Right, Lex?" :)
"Yeah."
HER NAME IS ALEXA
I'm sure you guessed it. "Lex" is short for Alexa and she is our granddaughter. We have her tonight because her mommy is getting ready to "surprise" Alexa with her brand new baby brother.
And... Alexa says "Yeah!" to just about everything. The second "Yeah" example I gave to you (the one about why we have these little creatures when we are younger) took place at the grocery store this evening.
Alexa, who's a not-quite-yet-two-year-old, her Mammaw, and me (Pap) at the grocery store together. Whew!
MY NAME IS "TIRED!"
The reason for that short dialogue with Lex was this: I was tired. (Forget *was* tired. I *am* tired!)
During the process of enjoying my grandchild and being tired I also found myself doing something all of us can do with a little effort: enjoy the simple things.
People on "the small side of life" do that. They discover and enjoy so many, many various aspects of this journey we term "life."
JUST HOW IS LIFE "ON THE SMALL SIDE"?
1. They don't mind learning things again and again. There is no thought of being embarrassed. If takes Lex one time -- or 25 times -- to learn how to say the "Yeah" word, it doesn't matter!
2. They smile a lot. In fact, they "bring on" the smiles of others because they shared theirs first. Now that's not a bad thought, is it?
3. They know how to play. A lot of life is a game for them. You
notice I said "a lot." Not all, but a lot. Keeping a playful spirit throughout life is a super character quality for anyone to possess if you ask me.
4. They enjoy looking at and touching a flower, scrutinizing an ant, and swinging in the park. They enjoy the simple things. I like that!
AND HOW ABOUT YOU? HOW COULD *YOU* ENJOY THE
"SMALL SIDE" OF LIFE THIS WEEK?
Could you...
*Stop and enjoy the laughter of children for a moment? *Refuse to be embarrassed about taking time to learn something new?
*Smile -- on purpose?
*Do something you want to do "just for the
fun of it"?
AND THE BENEFITS ARE?
You know them. Fill in the blanks. "If I viewed life a bit more 'on the small side'
this week, I would benefit by...
