DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND THE WORKPLACE

This interactive web-based training program helps employees and employers better respond to domestic violence in the workplace. It includes information about the prevalence of domestic violence and its impact on the workplace, as well as resources for victims and their co-workers. The training outlines the dynamics of abuse and why it is a workplace issue, what employees and supervisors can do to address domestic violence in the workplace, community efforts to stop domestic violence and steps people can take to end abuse in their own communities, among other things. The training was designed by experts in the fields of domestic violence, human resources and workplace safety; it was developed by the Multnomah County Domestic Violence Coordinator's Office in conjunction with community partners, including the Oregon Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence. PREVENTING FAMILY VIOLENCE: COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

This new free resource from the Family Violence Prevention Fund (FVPF) explores community-based efforts to address family violence. It outlines the results of the FVPF's survey of programs that work to end domestic violence, child abuse and other forms of family violence, and it highlights the "real-life" experiences of these programs as they work to change social norms and engage their communities in violence prevention. Through the programs' experiences, Preventing Family Violence highlights the five goals necessary to prevent family violence in a community.

They are:

1. Raising awareness of the problem of family violence and establishing social norms that make violence unacceptable;

2. Connecting community residents to services;

3. Changing social and community conditions that contribute to violence;

4. Building networks of leaders within a community; and

5. Making services and institutions accountable to community needs.

The booklet also includes recommendations for effective community engagement to prevent family violence and resources for programs. Preventing Family Violence: Community Engagement Makes the Difference is available online.
