North Dakota Obtaining Non-Identifying Information: Adoptive parents or adopted adults may obtain non-identifying information. A child placing agency may alert the adopted adult or birth parents in cases of death or pertinent medical information regarding the adopted adult or birth parents.
Obtaining Identifying Information: Adopted adults may request information on birth parents or birth siblings, and the agency will search for the birth parents or birth siblings to obtain consent. Birth parents and birth siblings may file consent to have information released. Adopted adults can receive information if birth parents or birth siblings consent to release of information. Birth siblings can receive information on an adopted adult if the adopted adult consents.
Obtaining an Original Birth Certificate: An adoptee must petition the court where the adoption was finalized.
