Please fill out the following optional information before submitting your rating:

1. Before placing a child in a child care arrangement, visit the facility together, give the child prior experience socializing with the caregiver(s) and with other children.

2. Anxiety over separation may be eased by providing "security" items - a favorite toy, doll or blanket.

3. Stay with your child until he/she becomes familiar with the setting; progressively shorten this stay over the first week or two. Allow the caregiver to play with your child while you are present.

4. Explain to the child what to expect in child care and why it is necessary (i.e. mom and dad must go to work).

5. Stability for a child is extremely important. Consistency in child care is essential; excessive changes can have an impact on development.

6. If you are dissatisfied with a facility or your child is unhappy, a change may be the best option. Once again be sure the child is prepared for the transition.

7. Find a child care arrangement that most closely follows your child-rearing philosophy.

8. Remember! Your child will pick up on any anxieties or fears you have about day care. You must be comfortable with your child care arrangement and relay those positive feelings to your child.
