Roadblocks in Search

I have recently begun my search for my birthmother. Her name was listed on my adoption papers, but I recently found out that I have an older sibling. I always thought it was her maiden name, but now I am not sure that maybe she was married before and it was her married name. I have done many internet searches under her name, but nothing comes up. Since she was 29 years old at the time of my adoption, I believe that it may have been her married name. What is your feeling on this? - Judy

Dear Judy,

Of course I get lots of questions regarding roadblocks people encounter during their searches.

The best advice I can give is to go to the search pages and look for tips under their state, and check with Search Angels and Angel Sites.

Most often there are individuals listed who can do specific things in your
state, some free, some for fees. (Be sure to ask about fees right away and keep everything in order.)

After reading what people can do be sure to then check the full search index.

On a personal level, are you still in the area where your adoption took place? If so you may want to visit the local library and look at old City Directores, etc. Also the courthouse may have marriage/divorce records that could help.

Best wishes,
Lezli
