I am 35 years old and was adopted at birth as were my two brothers. My adopted parents were always open with us about being adopted and "SPECIAL", so I grew up with a very positive attitude about it. I thought many times about searching for my birth mother, but I guess the time wasn't right for me until this year. I think I had been nervous and was afraid of being "rejected". But being a woman I began to have worries about genetic diseases like breast cancer, heart disease, etc. My parents were very supportive and helped me locate a private investigator throughthe court system.

I was born in 1967 and my files were in a basement in a box. I had also dumped my info into many adoption websites hoping she was looking for me. It took the P.I. only 2 months to find my BMOM and she was living only 8 hours from where I now live! It wound up being a very positive reunion and she had been wanting me to find her since the day she had given me up. I have discovered many facts and many questions regarding genetic conditions have been answered. And I also have a half sister now who is only a year younger than me.

I would encourage anyone who is adopted and curious to try and pursue this if you want to. I would just say that I was blessed to have it turn out so positive and to get in a good place mentally in case the birth parent does not want to be found. I went over every scenario I could in my mind and had decided that I just wanted medical info in case she was not receptive to being found. It is also good to be open and honest and communicate with your family, if that is an option.

Take care, good luck and pursue your dream; there are many BMOM'S out there who want to be found and are wondering.
