I am posting this message with mixed feelings. I am an adoptee born in 1969 in Toledo, Ohio. When I began searching for members of my birth family, I was excited about the possibilities available to me or anyone searching for me via the internet.

I enthusiastically entered information about myself on as many adoption websites as possible, and I eagerly checked my e-mail daily. It has been a year and a half now, and I have received no responses to any of my postings except those encouraging me to continue my search by search angels and other adoptees. My experience has made me wonder if my birth parents are even interested in communicating with me. I am finding it hard to believe that they are searching for me or even curious. I have logged on to my computer and entered only the information that my biological family would probably have: my birthdate and place of birth, and I can find myself in only a few minutes. My dilemma is this: I really would like to find out about my birth family, but I don't want to intrude or disrupt anyone's life. I have stated this in my bio's.

Should I give up my search? If my birth parents are aware of me, I wish that they would send a message to me that they do not wish to be contacted. I find it hard to believe that there isn't even mild interest, but it is beginning to feel that way to me. My husband says that there are people in their 50s who don't have any knowledge of computers or the internet so I can't make an assumption about their interest. So here is where I'll leave this post: If you know anything about my specific situation or my birth family, please contact me at kdale@mo-net.com. If I receive an e-mail requesting me to cease my search efforts, I will respect those wishes and remove my information from the web. As final as this will be, it will at least be some closure for me.
