Many of the students participated in a contest to design a poster, illustrating the concept of Healthy Eating Helps You Make the Grade. The winning posters were selected by the School District's Food Service Director and her staff. This was a very difficult job as well over 100 children submitted very creative entries to the contest!

The winning poster came from fifth grader, Emma Myers, who had created an eye-catching alphabet constructed from various foods. Emma admitted that she had some trouble with the letters U, X and Y, but cleverly resolved the problem by using "umpteen cherries," "xrtra corn" and "yummy bread."

Second place was won by a fourth grader, Ryan Christensen, who turned the food guide pyramid into a large "A" with a large plus sign beside it. School lunch makes for A+ grades!

Sarah Mortensen, a second grader, won third place with her apple and tomato who were discussing how much better you do in school when you eat school lunch. For Sarah, school lunch "rules." Sarah also managed to pay tribute to Principal Stephen Cherrington and the lunch ladies.

The winners were announced over the public address system in an Academy Awards like setting. Emma, Ryan and Sarah were treated to lunch at a very special table in the cafeteria, named the Cougars Den. The table had been prepared by one of the moms with a tablecloth, gold serving plates, real china and silver, pewter goblets for the milk, a candelabra and flowers.
