1. Safety-proofing is an ongoing process. A child's bedroom should be an area where they can play for short periods - check the room regularly for safety condiditions.

2. Keep medications locked and high out of child's reach - don't forget you have a little mountain climber in training.

3. When using a barbeque, establish a line around the barbeque which your children can't cross - they move faster than you expect and can be badly burned.

4. Select food that will be eaten in the car carefully - if your child begins to choke, you won't be able to get to them easily.

5. Bolt bookshelves to the wall. Climbing little ones can bring the entire until toppling over on them - earthquakes can, too!

6. Don't let the telephone distract you. It's there for your convenience. If you don't want to miss a call, get an answering machine.

7. Keep pet food and water out of reach - children can drown in the water and possibly choke on the food.

8. Miniblind and drapery cords must be tied up or cut off and kept out of a child's reach. Children can become entangled in cords and strangle. Also, be aware of lamp cords.

9. Limit sun time during the hours of 10am and 3pm when the sun's rays are strongest. Children can get a sunburn even on cloudy days.

10. When visiting other people's homes, look around to ensure that toys and the environment are age appropriate for your child.
