Your Child's Future Back Problems?
Your child's future back problems?
As parents we do not pay sufficient attention to our children's backs. We ought to, for our children's sake!
Your child will be watching the TV for some time every day. For how long? Your child will also be watching the computer monitor for some time every day. For how long?
While you might think that the length of time is important, it really is not the most important factor, if you want to help your child.
The important factor is *how* your child is watching either the TV or the computer screen!
Is he/she lying on the floor? Half lying on a sofa or other similar piece of furniture? Would he/she not care much about the actual position of sitting/lying? Probably not.
But as a responsible
parent you should!
A number of
research projects, especially in the USA, have been published during the last 25 years or more. All of them show that unless we start paying attention to the problem, and do something about it, our children are going to suffer a lot in later years! (Many adults are suffering now).
Chiropractors and Osteopaths all agree about the problem: unless you as a parent take precautions, your child will end up having no end of back problems at a later date!
What should you do as a parent?
The most important part of the problem is that you are aware of it! Full marks for this!
Make sure that your child is sitting in a comfortable position whenever he/she is watching either TV or a computer screen. No stretching, bending, moving of your head in an awkward position, in order to see what is going on.
This is it!
You will save your child untold years of agony by making sure he/she is sitting properly watching TV or a computer screen. Prevention is better than cure!
Often a computer with a separate monitor is used by different members of the family. People are not all the same size, so different heights of seating are required. An extra cushion or two might do the job for the younger ones. We ought to give this some serious thought!
Most back problems are the result of the wrong use of our legs, arms, shoulders, necks. We sit in a poor position, lift heavy stuff wrongly, etc. For your child(ren) you will have given them an excellent helping hand by making sure they don't misuse their backs during the many hours a week when they watch TV or a computer screen.
