Efrain Garza Fuentes is a West coast native, born in East Los Angeles and raised in Watts and Compton, California. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Irvine and received his doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Boston University. He is currently the Director of Patient and Family Services at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, and has provided child and family therapy, supervision, and program development in hospitals, private institutions and community-based organizations. Populations served: alcohol and drug dependent, incarcerated, in- and outpatient, couples, students, refugees, and immigrants. He has provided extensive clinical, management, and development consultation to private industry, hospitals, schools, and both state and federal governments on issues of diversity. He is also a voluntary faculty member of the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He has been an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Boston University’s School of Social Work, and Professor at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. He has also acted as a Consultant to Boston University Medical Center’s Healthy Start Initiative, and Harvard Medical Education Centers program on Diversity and Health. He has been invited as a Guest Lecturer/Speaker at the Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard Medical School and Amnesty International. He was also named “Unsung Hero” in appreciation for a lifetime dedicated to embracing the wealth, strength, and joy of the diversity of this country by Health Care For All; Latino Health Council, et al. He is a father, husband, tio, padrino, and brother; he waves to children in elevators and gets a kick out of psychologically analyzing organizations.
