Biography

Dr. Les Linet is board certified both in psychiatry and in child and adolescent psychiatry. He is currently in private practice and is also a Clinical Assistant Attending in Psychiatry at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. In the past, he has held faculty positions as Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry both at the State University of New York, Health Sciences Center at Brooklyn and at Cornell Medical College in New York City. After receiving his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, he trained in psychiatry at the State University of New York, Health Sciences Center at Brooklyn, where he later also completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry. Dr. Linet was in charge of medical student education in child psychiatry at that institution and later worked as Medical and Psychiatric Director of a residential treatment center for severely disturbed children and adolescents. In addition, he served for several years on the Medical Advisory Board of the Tourette Syndrome Association and is a member of the Advisory Board to CH.A.D.D. (Children With Attention Deficit Disorders) of Brooklyn. Dr. Linet is a certified sex therapist. He also served as Director of Sexuality Education at The New York Methodist Hospital in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has published a number of professional articles in peer-reviewed publications such as the American Journal of Psychiatry and the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry and contributed to a chapter for a textbook for medical students. Dr. Linet also received international recognition for his editorship of the Tourette Syndrome Association's Medical Letter, which reviews the world’s literature on Tourette Syndrome. Dr. Linet has frequently spoken before non medical audiences. At the New School for Social Research in New York City he taught a course on human sexuality. In addition, having developed a special interest in gender differences, he has taught classes on that subject at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. He has also appeared on various television programs, including "Maury Povich", and "Good Day, First Edition." Dr. Linet also appeared three times on "The Mental Health Report." A specific "Mental Health Report" program which featured Dr. Linet on the topic of Tourette Syndrome won first prize in the news and information category in a nationwide competition (Nova award).
