Biography

Linda Back McKay is a poet, writer and teacher whose work has appeared in many magazines and literary publications in the USA and Canada, with a wide range of awards. She was creative consultant for the play, “Watermelon Hill,” produced at the Great American History Theatre in St. Paul, Minnesota. The play is inspired by her poem by the same name as well as ideas from her book SHADOW MOTHERS. Other publication credits include 33 Minnesota Poets(2000, Nodin Press), Adoptive Families of America magazine, California Quarterly, Great River Review, Minneapolis Star Tribune and Writers’ Journal. She teaches poetry writing workshops and creativity sessions at schools, book stores and other venues. The recipient of several artist residency fellowships, McKay is a featured reader and speaker for a variety of groups, clubs and literary events. She has been interviewed on both commercial and public radio and television. McKay is also an independent advertising creative director/writer and lives with David McKay, the neighbor’s pushy cat and their red-hot motorcycle in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their four grown children include Becka, a writer and editor, Michele, an officer in the Foreign Service, Joel, an art student and Katie, a social service worker. The McKays treasure every moment with Linda’s birth son and his family, which includes grandchildren Allie Rose and Nicholas Leon.
