Biography

Mary Ruth Coleman is the director of Project U-STARS (Using Science Talent and Abilities to Recognize Students) at the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Center, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has a joint appointment with the School of Education, where she is an associate professor of special education. Dr. Coleman has taught in both general and gifted educational programs in both public and private schools. She served as the associate editor for the Journal for the Education of the Gifted for over ten years, has guest-edited special issues for the Journal of Secondary Education; is a contributing editor to Gifted Child Today and is on the advisory board for Gifted Child Quarterly. She is also past president of The Association for the Gifted, a division of Council for Exceptional Children.
