Gratitude
Yesterday three things happened that humbled my existence. My two-year-old jammed out on her play guitar while watching herself in the reflection of the oven in my kitchen. I was filled with a sensation of pride, as I watched her love herself so much. My father wrote something that I got to read. I was enthralled in the intimacy of his telling heart. My friend brought a movie over last night and curled up on my couch to the sounds of a thunderstorm. I was comforted in friendship.A child who taught me to entertain myself with the beauty of me, a parent who blessed me with the willingness to share himself, and a friend who accepts me just as I am. Am I deserving of all this? Probably not. But I am grateful.
I had the honor of writing my best friend's wedding invitations and vows, and my art design is tattooed on another friend's ankle forever. I get to work doing what I love everyday and I have a man who comes home at night to hold me. I have children who shine despite my flaws in polishing them, and I have two parents who share themselves with me in ways that change my life.
And all in one single day. I will never take for granted the moments that pass quickly for they often hold more power than the illusion of time itself. And I will spend more energy on keeping my eyes wide open in gratitude.
Be grateful today ... blessings are all around us.
