Vacations

Do we bring the foster children or not? Is the vacation for us to have a break from the foster children? Aren't we suppose to consider the foster children just as if they were our own? If we go without the foster children, won't we be hurting their feelings?

Your decision to go or not to go should be based on your ability to cope with the additional problems associated with having the foster children along. If you want to go on vacation for yourself (you and your husband) then by all means go without the foster children. Make arrangement for the foster children to stay in "Respite Care" with another foster family. If you have biological children that you will be taking on a vacation, then the question remains, will I be able to handle the extra work? Will my biological children be able to have a vacation? Most foster parents (that I know) with difficult to handle foster children take their vacation without the foster children. They feel that they need that time away. A time to recharge. Time so spend with their spouse or their biological children. Remember the foster children enjoy going to a new home for a time. It is also interesting to note that your foster child will usually (but not always) be an angel while you are away!

So whatever you decide, have a good time. Have fun!

Are you planning to vacation in another state with your foster children? Then remember to get permission to cross state lines.
