Parent Support Groups
Across North America today, there are hundreds of parent support groups serving foster and adoptive families. Parent groups provide the opportunity for parents to share information, experience, and emotions with one another. The need for support after the adoption is critical, and parents regularly turn to parent groups to find this support. Parent groups are an inexpensive, effective means of providing and expanding post-adoption services to families. NACAC's database of parent groups includes a searchable list of hundreds of parent groups that you can use to find support in your community or region. If you would like to start a parent group or would like to discuss your group's needs and our services, please send an e-mail to info@nacac.org or call us 651-644-3036. If you would like to join NACAC's e-mail list serv for parent group leaders, click on http://www.mnforum.org/mailman/listinfo/nacac-parentgroups. Through this service, you can exchange messages with other parent group leaders and our staff.
NACAC's Adoptive Parent Leadership Network is funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Children's Bureau. HHS also funded a network for groups that serve kinship care providers (KinNET) and another for foster parent groups (FosterParentNet). HHS also funds support of adoptive parent groups through AdoptUSKids, which is currently offering mini-grants to parent groups.
