Adoption Subsidy Resource Center Overview
Since 1994, NACAC has operated the National Adoption Subsidy Resource Center (formerly called NAATRIN) to educate parents and professionals on Title IV-E Adoption Assistance in the United States.NACAC's 2003-04 goals for the Center include:
Improve adoption assistance policies in at least three states share information (by phone, mail, and the Internet) with more than 15,000 foster parents, prospective adopters, adoptive parents, child welfare professionals, and other child advocates provide one-on-one case advocacy to 500 individuals who have not received the assistance their children need train 1,100 foster and adoptive parents, and adoption professionals in 2003, we embarked upon a new initiative in Canada to create adoption assistance profiles for each of the 13 provinces and territories. We have a majority of profiles available for distribution.
In 2002, NACAC released the report Forever Families-Support for Families of Children with Special Needs: A Policy Analysis of Adoption Subsidy Programs in the United States. A PDF of the Report can be downloaded at no charge. This report compares states' adoption assistance policies in 14 different areas (such as definitions of special needs and basic monthly subsidy rates) and identifies those policies best designed to help children with special needs obtain the services and support they need.
Our work in both the U.S. and Canada is funded by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.
